Gdańsk with Kids — Best Attractions and Family Apartments

Half of our guests come back to Gdańsk precisely because of stays with children. The Tricity is one of the most family-friendly cities in Poland — short distances, plenty of green space, the beach on the doorstep, and attractions calibrated for different ages.

Plan for a family with children aged 4–12

Day 1 — City attractions

Hewelianum (Centrum Hewelianum, Gradowa Street) — an interactive science museum for children. Physics experiments, exhibitions about the history of Gdańsk made so engaging that even a nine-year-old does not want to leave. Allow a minimum of 3 hours. Book tickets online — at weekends there are queues.

After Hewelianum, stroll up to Gradowa Hill — fortifications with a view over the Shipyard. For teenagers: “industrial vibes”; for younger ones: “it’s like a castle”.

Lunch: DOKI Food Hall (10 minutes on foot). Every child will find something they like — sushi, pizza, burgers, dumplings, ice cream.

After lunch, choose: ECS for teenagers (10+) or Orunia Park for younger children (playgrounds, fountains, cycle paths).

Day 2 — Beach and zoo

Tram 8 to Brzeźno. Playground by the pier, sandy beach (supervised bathing in summer), family restaurants on the promenade. Give it the whole morning.

In the afternoon, Oliwa Zoo — 20 minutes by SKM commuter rail. One of the 3 largest zoological gardens in Poland, home to many exotic animals, but the grounds are large, so bring a pram for younger children.

Evening: Oliwa Park next to the zoo. Streams, little bridges, squirrels, an organ concert in the Cathedral (if you catch the timing — daily during the season at 12:00 and 13:00).

Day 3 — Sopot with kids

25 minutes by tram to Sopot. The longest wooden pier in Europe (511 metres — great for children who can count; for the rest: “very long!”). The Crooked House for photos, Aquapark if it rains.

The Sopot square is also a great place for ice cream — Lodziarnia Pomorska is a local institution.

Rainy-day attractions

• Hewelianum — on a heavy rain day book in advance, as everyone has the same idea.
• Loopy’s World at Auchan Rumia — indoor play area for younger children, good for a few hours.
• Amber Museum (6+) — short, interesting, right in the city centre.
• Multikino at Galeria Bałtycka — children’s films in 4DX, if it is truly pouring down.
• Aquapark Sopot — a bigger investment of time (3–4 hours) and money, but children are happily exhausted by the evening.

Family apartment — what to check before booking

From our experience, a family apartment needs:

1. Washing machine — because children get dirty every day
2. Full kitchen — because they will not eat out for every meal
3. Cot for the baby (available on request in some of our apartments)
4. Quiet surroundings in the evenings (Brzeźno beats the Old Town, where bars run until midnight)
5. Parking — so you do not waste hours searching for a space with all your luggage
